Participation in the forum in Tallinn

A representative of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University took part in the Baltic-Scandinavian Youth Forum in Tallinn.

The Assistant of the Department of History and Archaeology, E.S. Shevtsova, took part in the Youth Forum in Tallinn (Estonia). The Baltic-Scandinavian Youth Forum – 2023 has become the 11th forum focusing on issues related to Baltic-Scandinavian relations, NATO’s growing borders, the future of the Arctic and digital threats of the 19th century. This year, the Youth Forum brought together about 50 motivated students and young scientists from the Baltic countries, Northern Europe and all over the world.

During the event, everyone had the opportunity to participate in high-level group work, seminars and panel discussions with leading specialists in the field of international relations, international security, specialists from NATO and the Estonian government.

Speakers at the forum included Riho Terras, former defense chief of Estonia; Reinhard Krumm, Director of the Friedrich Ebert Regional Office for the Baltic States; Major Jean-Sebastien Cormier, Chief of Staff of the Enhanced Forward Presence in Estonia; Vesa Vasara, Ambassador of the Republic of Finland to the Republic of Estonia; Mike Gallagher, NATO Force Integration Specialist in Estonia, and many other interesting and experienced international security professionals.

In these challenging times, it is vital that young people express their views and discuss the relationship between NATO, the Baltic countries, the Nordic countries, the threat from Russia and cyber threats. As always, the central issue of all international meetings today is Ukraine. E.S. Shevtsova asked the speakers about the responsibility of not only Russia, but also the international community for the war in Ukraine, about the means and methods of countering propaganda, about successful cases of reintegration of occupied territories, which could be used to work with the residents of Crimea, Donbass and all other Ukrainian territories that are now suffering from the Russian occupation.

The 2023 Forum was organized by the NATO PDD, the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, the Baltic-American Freedom Foundation, the Estonian Ministries of Defense and Foreign Affairs, and the Canadian Embassy in Estonia.
