Languages and Cultures of the Nations of the World

On April 29, at the Faculty of Foreign Languages, the winners of the All-Ukrainian competition “Languages and Cultures of the Peoples of the World” were awarded.

The competition was launched in 2017 by Shekhovtsova Svitlana Oleksandrivna (in 2018–2021, Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages). In 7 years, the competition gained popularity and became known not only in Poltava and Luhansk regions, but also in other regions of Ukraine. This year, more than 130 students of grades 9-11 of general secondary education institutions took part in the competition.

The competition is held online in the following nominations:

  • Artistic performance of a lyrical work in English / German / French / Spanish (“Lyrics” section);
  • Artistic performance of an excerpt of a prose work of art in English / German / French / Spanish (“Fictional Prose” section);
  • Artistic performance of an excerpt of a dramatic work in English / German / French / Spanish (section “Dramatic work”);
  • Artistic performance of one’s own English-language / German-language / French-language / Spanish-language translation of a Ukrainian lyrical work (song) / an excerpt from Ukrainian-language artistic prose (section “Own artistic translation”);
  • Performance of a modern Japanese / Chinese song (with the possibility of using cosplay elements and accompaniment) (“Eastern Song” section);
  • An artistic performance of a Japanese/Chinese poem or an excerpt of a prose work of art (“Oriental work of art” section).

All participants of the competition, as well as their teachers, received certificates and souvenirs.

The jury consisting of teachers and students of the Faculty of Foreign Languages determined the winners in various nominations. In total, 47 participants won prizes, and winners were also recognized in the following nominations: prize for audience sympathy, for artistry and original performance, for own translation, etc. Among the winners of the competition are students of general secondary education institutions of Poltava and Donetsk regions.

At the award ceremony, the languages of the world’s nations were spoken: Ukrainian, English, Chinese, German, French.

The highlight of the event was the performance of the orchestra of students from the Institute of Culture and Arts of our university.
