The book “Essays on the History of Luhansk Region” is intended for a wide range of readers, all those who are interested in history, modernity and concerned about the future of Luhansk Region.
The presented work contains materials of various local history studies conducted by scientists of our university in recent years. Since this period was associated with the forced evacuation of the institution to the city of Starobilsk, located in the geographical center of the north of the Luhansk region, the emphasis is on highlighting the history of this region.
During the preparation of this edition, the fruitful cooperation with the Institute of Archeology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, whose materials became a valuable source for the history of Luhansk region, presented in documentary archive materials, became extremely important.
The author Vitalii KURYLO noted that the writing of this book would not have been possible without relying on the achievements of local historians of the Luhansk region, who have been dealing with very different problems of regional history for many years. Therefore, the combination of the results of the research of many scientists with the analysis of new and already known archival and published sources gave an opportunity to create a more or less complete picture of the historical development of the Luhansk Region.
Let us add that the popular science nature of the publication determined the format of the presented material. The authors focused on significant historical monuments of the region, as well as the activities of historical figures who played a prominent role in Ukrainian history.
Also Vitalii KURYLO emphasized the importance of the future local history work, which will continue to be carried out by the scientists of LTSNU and thanked everyone involved in the creation of the scientific publication “Essays on the History of Luhansk Region”. His final words: “Luhansk region is Ukraine! Luhansk was, is and will be!”
The rector of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University Olena KARAMAN sincerely thanked Professor Vitalii KURYLO for his invaluable and important contribution to science, for his significant pedagogical and historical contribution, both for the university and for the whole of Ukraine. Olena Leonidivna concluded by adding: “Our mission is to pass on our possessions, new acquisitions and cultural values to our descendants, to the young generation that will grow up in a free and independent Ukraine!”
A pleasant surprise was a gift from the famous artist, honorary member of the Union of Artists of Ukraine Oleksandr MIROSHNYCHENKO, who lived in Luhansk Region for 30 years, his original oil painting with landscapes of Lubny Region.
